the world's premiere online community for backyard ice rinks

First time builder here, my son and I put together a 40x40 for our first adventure and all went pretty well besides mother nature only willing to help out here and there. lol

Like most of you we had our slush adventures ( and still continue to on the top with the rain / sleet ) had our share of cold floods to build ice early and then our hot washes for the few skates we managed to squeeze in.

Looking over the upcoming weather forecasts for our Western New York area still doesnt look overly promising even though its already going to be Feb 1st.....geesh, told all our friends that they should pay us to put a rink in every year if this is the kind of mild winter we get when I do, lmao.

I will say though that even though to this point the work has far outweighed the skating time, we will be doing it again, great bonding time with the son and the skating time he/we have had has been awesome.

Anyhow, just wanted to wish all the rest of my fellow crazys here hopefully a few good weeks of skating eventually.....good luck and enjoy.

last year was better for consistent cold weather in January, that's for sure.

Who has angered the gods so that they visit such weather upon our rinks!?!

I am a fellow crazy here, temps supposed to be in the 50's for 3 days this coming week and then down into the 30 through the week end. UGGGHHH!! I thought this was winter in Illinois, not spring all winter long!!!

Put a ton of work into a double the size rink from last season and here we sit, looking at it from inside the house, wondering if it will ever get cold enough for us to skate with any consistency.

Yep, I am definitely NUTS!!!

And another thaw on the way for the next couple days...............grrrrrrrrrr  :(

Mark, that cartoon is awesome, mind if I borrow it?

no worries...I've borrowed it from someone else as well...heck I'm thinking of printing it off, and using it as my face off circle at centre ice (or rather slush/water)....

Only positive about a 54 degree day today is that it is allowing me to drain some water to get back the boards height I lost to all the slush early on......

always a positive found somewhere...suppose to get a cold snap within the week...here's to hoping for at least a normal February

Wow is right. Just checked the rink all I need to do is and some rum and coke and invite a few friends for the biggest mixed drink ever. It has reached the 60's for the third day in a row with no real end in sight. Saw a guy hitting golf balls in the yard tonight.

When checking ours earlier, I felt like the movie titanic because all that was left was one "iceberg ahead"

LOL!  great post and perfect cartoon! :)
