"I like the shop vac Idea My trick for this one is fill the hose, plug both ends (with a stick) put one in the rink and hold with a clip or rock, the other end goes downhill as far as I can check I didn't pull it out of the rink which I have…"

"Update: This method worked. You may have to cup your hand around the hose/shopvac connection to create a seal and force better suction, but it worked for me on a 50 ft hose."

Tips for emptying the rink

Yes, it's that time of year already :(With temperatures forecasted to reach into the 60s for a couple of days next week, but more importantly even when it settles back down the highs will be in the 40s and the lows in the low to mid-30s. So it seems like the season has come to an end. Earlier than I was hoping, but we still got an excellent 6 weeks or so out of the rink.I've come across a tip for emptying the rink that I thought I'd pass along and see if anyone has tried it or has other…See More

"IF you put hose ontop it will melt the ice even putting it under may cause melt. Check the edge before filling and see if you have a hole at the water line. a kids skate can cut the liner easy. where you might not see it"

"Welcome, I can’t really speak to your problem because I have never actually had it, however i don’t think it would really matter, sounds like the ice that is left is not really skateable (ie trying to save it) Top or bottom of ice, flood…"

Evaporation / Refill Question

Hi everybody!First time rinkbuilder and poster here. Thanks to all of you guys that have provided information, ideas and datatpoints about their experiences. First a little background on the rink design and specifics:My rink is roughly 23'x38'. I'm using the liner method, supported by OSB plywood. I misjudged the slope by a little bit, and anyways wanted to increase my board height for shooting a puck around, so it's kind of a hodgepodge of 1' high OSB boards with a 2nd 1' high OSB on top in…See More
